What is the best way to start building my pool?

Get your team together, choose your foreman. Sit down and slowly go through the manual page by page. Water finds it's own level so do ensure the base is prepared correctly.

Do I require any tools?

There are tools in the kit - but in addition you will need a battery drill, manly enough to insert some 100+ stainless steel screws. Drill bits should be 3mm 4mm - best to get a couple just in case! You will also need 50mm wide masking tape and a stick of chalk. If you are buying the larger pool range then you will also need spanners - 19 mm ring spanner.

Can I submerge the swimming pool in the ground?

Yes - a lot of owners do. The sensible height out of the ground is around 800mm - this gives a nice height to sit on and still assists as a wind barrier against dust blowing into the pool. Please ask for guidance on this.

What type of base will I require for a swimming pool?

For longevity you should consider installing a sound concrete base. Having said that, many pools are assembled directly on to a soil base - watch out for drains - and any services that may need accessing in the future. There should be no sharp edges, or tree roots etc.

Can a garden  swimming pool be heated?

Yes - speak to us at Pool Installers we can advise you. There are a range of pool heaters available on this site or you may be able to use your domestic boiler?

Can I make the pool any deeper?

Yes - by 122mm. This means you will need a deeper liner.

What is the cost of running the pool including water treatment products?

Use £9 a week as an average - this is without heating. The cost can vary depending on use and weather conditions.

Does the wood need treating?

The timber used in all Sunsoka models is pressure treated to give you years of service. For aesthetic reasons it is a good idea to bring out the grain annually, using a recognised wood preserver. Don't let any preserver get in the water as is will stain the liner.

"I am Chairwoman of a PTA in Cambridge, is your range of pools suitable for schools?'

The range of pools sold to the school market is different to that of the range sold for domestic use. Sunsoka school range has increased filtration and circulation pump capacity we also offer a thicker liner to cope with the increased bathing load. There are additional coping brackets included to take the extra loading. Premium grade filter media is used in all Sunsoka filtration packs instead of sand this is especially beneficial where there is a likelihood of high levels of contamination brought in by the swimmers. School pools are supplied to SPATA standards.
